Biography

Pete is a fourth year medical student at the University of Alberta in Canada. He worked as a lifeguard and has been teaching courses (including lifesaving, lifeguarding, and lifeguard instructor courses) for eight years. His lifelong passion in education and teaching eventually led him to complete his MEd in Adult Learning in Education before pursuing a degree in medicine. His interests in education include curriculum development, pedagogy, educational leadership, and educational philosophy.

As a Program Advisor appointed by the Lifesaving Society BC & Yukon Branch, Pete is actively engaged in curriculum renewal efforts for the National Lifeguard (NL) Program. He recently published both the NL Waterpark instructor and candidate manuals for BC’s 2022 NL Program re-launch.

Pete works with the ILS Medical Committee to develop and maintain their website as well as manage both their Twitter (@ilsmedical_) and Instagram (@ilsmedical) accounts, where he creates posts to educate others about drowning prevention.
