Biography

Pete is a resident physician in Family Medicine at the University of Toronto in Canada. He worked as a lifeguard and taught aquatic leadership courses for eight years (including lifesaving, lifeguarding, and lifeguard instructor courses). His lifelong passion in education and teaching eventually led him to complete his MEd in Adult Learning in Education before pursuing a degree in medicine. His interests in education include curriculum development, instructional design, educational leadership, andragogy, and educational philosophy.

 

As a Program Advisor appointed by the Lifesaving Society BC & Yukon Branch, Pete is actively engaged in curriculum renewal efforts for the National Lifeguard (NL) Program. He recently published both the NL Waterpark instructor and candidate manuals for BC’s 2022 NL Program re-launch.

 

Pete works with the ILS Medical Committee to develop and maintain their website as well as manage both their Twitter (@ilsmedical_) and Instagram (@ilsmedical) accounts, where he creates posts to educate others about drowning prevention.
