Biography
Romy combines her medical profession with her passion for lifesaving and science communication.

She joined the Point Leo Surf Life Saving Club in Victoria, Australia, as a nipper and has been a passionate member since. Romy holds numerous lifesaving qualifications and has a volunteer career of many leadership roles, hundreds of patrol and water safety hours, and a boasts number of successful initiatives.

Reducing injury and death in, on or around the water has been a core objective of Romy’s since her time as a nipper and surf lifesaver, and remains a focus now as a young medical professional. Romy sees a concurrent involvement in both medicine and lifesaving as enriching her experience in both and she looks forward to combining her passions for lifesaving, healthcare and science communication with the ILS as the current Dr Ian Mackie Fellow (2024-2028).
