Biography

Niklas is a medical doctor from Denmark and member of the Medical Advisory Board for Surf Life Saving Denmark and the Danish Swimming Federation. Niklas has an interest in the various medical aspects of drowning and was an applicant for the Dr Ian Mackie Fellowship in 2019.

 

Academic experience:

 

  • PhD-student from March 2022-2025 on a project entitled: “Drowning in Denmark: A Danish nationwide five-year registry-based study on etiology, incidence, survival, and spatial distribution of non-fatal and fatal drowning accidents”
  • Author of four chapters in the Danish Lifeguard Handbook: 1) Basic Life Support, 2) Extended Basic Life Support (including oxygen), 3) First Aid, and 4) Spinal Injuries,
  • Author of the national guidelines on first aid during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Co-author of the Standard Operating Procedures on first aid and resuscitation for Surf Life Saving Denmark
  • Translation of the newest European Resuscitation Guidelines 2021

 

Working experience within Surf Life Saving Denmark:

 

  • 8 years as a professional ocean lifeguard in Denmark
  • 1 season as professional ocean lifeguard in Queensland (Mooloolaba Beach), Australia
  • 4 years as ocean lifeguard instructor
  • 2 years as course director and first aid coordinator
  • Current position as medical doctor and member of the Medical Advisory Board

  • Founder and National Course Director on the generic resuscitation training programme for lifeguards in Denmark
  • Chair of the Danish Resuscitation Council’s (DRC) Pediatric Basic Life Support committee
  • Founding member of the DRC’s Basic Life Support committee
  • Founding member of the DRC’s First Aid committee
