Biography
Dr. Dion van de Schoot is an Emergency Medicine Specialist from New Zealand, a lifelong waterman and surfer, his primary interests include pre-hospital / bystander response in Drowning.
As a founder of Surfing Medicine International, he has played a key role in connecting global stakeholders across surf lifesaving, water safety organisations, elite water patrol units, surfing federations, and academic partners. His work has contributed to strengthening international collaboration, advancing research, and improving bystander rescue education within surf communities.
Dion is looking forward to contributing to the ILS science communication to disseminate evidence-based knowledge effectively to coastal communities worldwide, to prevent injury and death in the aquatic environment.
